Next Meeting:

Our community is in Zone 2

Mission/Purpose:
The purpose of our Neighborhood Watch Organization is to help protect our resident's property and maintain the safety and security of our neighborhoos.  In partnership with the Fairburn Police Department, learn how to make our homes safe and prevent crime in our community by having a visible presence, being observant and reporting suspicious activities to the local authority. The committee will also keep the residents informed of issues and come up with strategies to keep the neighborhood safe.

Get Involved:
Our Community is only as successful as we make it.  By getting involved, you can make a real difference in the community.

Our HOA is homeowner controlled and has the mission of serving the homeowners and maintaining their property values. With such a large community, your ideas, input and other contributions are not only welcomed, but needed. All of the HOA meetings are open to the community and we strongly encourage homeowners to come.

If you would like to join one of the neighborhood committees, please contact the appropriate committee chair or fill out the Join Committee Form below.

Goals:
  • Update block captains list
  • Ensure that all residents know who their block captains are
  • Have updated contact information for each resident
  • Include the emergency contact form in the welcome package to new residents
  • Encourage all residents to take a proactive role in preventing crime and protecting our neighborhood
  • Work with the social committee to include information to the new residents who move in about our neighborhood watch and to let them know who their block captain is
  • Identify problem residents (drug dealers, sex offenders, etc.) and come up with a legal solution to deal with them

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Chair and co-chair:
  • Primary contact with the Police Department for non-emergency issues
  • Organize dates and time for NHW meetings
  • Maintain a log of any reported suspicious activities in the area
  • Maintain updated list of residents
  • Accomplish the goals set for the committee

Block Captains:
  • Meet each resident in your assigned area and encourage them to take part in the NHW program by providing contact information and being observant Keep block list current; update block list as new residents move in and others move out.
  • Communicate when someone new moves into the block; this information is passed on to Social Committee so that the resident can be “welcomed” to the neighborhood
  • Document and communicate suspicious activities with others in the group
  • Keep abreast of  safety/security issues and share with community
  • Occasionally drive through the neighborhood

Notice Something Unusual?
When you notice something unusual or note unfamiliar vehicles, people and/or activity, please, please, please call the police.  It's better to let them check it out and KNOW things are okay than to find out something was askew and wish you HAD pursued and reported your suspicion.  It is our community, our families and our homes which are at stake. Let's be even more pro-active about keeping the Parks at Durham Lake a comfortable and safe place to reside.

Now that we have our Neighborhood Watch, we need more people to get involved.  We have a Committee Head and Block Captains, but what we need now is the community to step up and become active in this quest.

An ole proverb says: "It takes a village to raise a child" well let's start our own proverb and say: "It takes a community to stop a thief."

If you would like further information on how you can participate in our neighborhood watch please contact one of the committee members.
